MONDAY    Tues    Wed    Thu    Fri    Sat    Sun

0840 - Good morning. The day starts in a rush with me taking the Santa Fe down for 15K service. Then I've got to bathe the Lucy when I get back - Marcia says she stinks. Yeah, she's a dog... so? Anyway, I'll be back later.

Mon    TUESDAY    Wed    Thu    Fri    Sat    Sun
January 20, 2004

0723 - Good morning... Once again, later has turned into tomorrow. They finally had the air filter in stock, so I got the Elantra serviced after the Santa Fe. Then it was time to give stinky little Lucy a bath. In between those things, I was debugging a mail problem caused by yesterday's updates for that client - yes, on my day off, that's okay, it is my job to make sure their systems are working right. By the time that and the calm-down phase was done, it was time to take Marcia for a doctor's appointment way that-a-way. The only fun part about that was delineating the species of the Maryland driver: from the most comon creature "Fucking Moron", to the occasionally dangerous "Just Plain Stupid", and the exceedingly rare "Blithering Idiot". e saw fine examples of all three on the roads yesterday afternoon, fortunately without mishap and mayhem happening in our vicinity.

Today I've got office time, then a conference call, then a Linux server installation for a client. May be a long day - hard to tell from this vantage. So this is also Monday, in a way. Have a good 'un.

2219 - No post, no time today, so sorry. And for the downtime this morning as well. The box just ... stopped, so far as we can tell. Nothing in the logs or the SMART tests to show why. Now I need to go to bed - I didn't get home until after 9 and that's just too long a day - four clients, too. Woo-thud! See ya...

Mon    Tues    Wed    Thu    FRIDAY    Sat    Sun
January 23, 2004

0642 - Good morning. It has continued to be a crazy week. I'm still fighting this cold/sore throat thing, and work has been frantic. Yesterday, I'll give you, I got home shortly after 6. But by the time chores, supper and paying bills was done, it was past 10, and I was done, too. Today is going to be long as well, and tomorrow I'm working for a half day as well. Admittedly, too much work is far better a problem to have than no work at all, so don't count this as whining, just a reason for lack of interesting things to read about here. After all, most of what I'm doing is just the Windows patching dance, and there's nothing interesting there for either you or me. Have a great day!

Mon    Tues    Wed    Thu    Fri    SATURDAY    Sun
January 24, 2004

1102 - Good morning. Yeah, I'm here, just not all the way. I woke up at 0700, in preparation for going to a client site this morning by 0900. There was ice and snow on the ground, not much... but in combination with the fact that I'm still fighting the same cold/flu/bug/virus/whatever that has been plaguing me for the last two weeks or more and my throat feels like I'd been eating rasps all night, I decided to bag it. I need to be healthier - better for me, better for clients, just plain better. So I'm taking two consecutive days off and doing nothing much with them. That's probably a good thing, but I still feel bad about not following through on what I said I'd do.

Maybe it's naptime... more later, perhaps.

Mon    Tues    Wed    Thu    Fri    Sat    SUNDAY
January 25, 2004

...WINTER STORM WARNING...   SUNDAY NOON UNTIL 7AM MONDAY
SNOW WILL BEGIN EARLY SUNDAY AFTERNOON ACROSS THE REGION. SNOW COULD BE HEAVY AT TIMES SUNDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING. SNOW WILL BECOME MIXED WITH SLEET AT TIMES SUNDAY EVENING. ALL PRECIPITATION WILL GRADUALLY TAPER OFF BY DAYBREAK MONDAY, ALTHOUGH PATCHES OF LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE ARE EXPECTED TO LINGER ON MONDAY. TOTAL ACCUMULATION OF SNOW AND SLEET IS EXPECTED TO RANGE FROM 4 TO 7 INCHES BEFORE THE STORM SYSTEM MOVES OUT EARLY MONDAY.

0850 - Good morning. With that in mind, we're headed out to get our weekly grocery shopping done in a few minutes, as soon as the warehouse store opens. Otherwise I might have been able to sleep until 10 or 11. As it is, my throat feels better - still sore, but not raw like yesterday. And other than a kink in my neck/shoulder interface from sleeping on it wrong, the rest of the body definitely feels improved. I sure hope that this trend continues - I'm sick of not being at the top of my form.

Yesterday was fairly restful, mostly reading Stephenson's Quicksilver, and in the evening I read the first part of TAOUP, Eric Raymond's lastest work. Now we'd best be on our way. Have a great Sunday.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
