Welcome to Orb Graffiti, a place for me to write daily about life and computers. Contrary to popular belief, the two are not interchangeable.     About eMail - I publish email sometimes. 1754 - Good afternoon. Yesterday I read Harry Potter VI. Today I worked. Not much more to offer at the moment, other than I liked the former a lot, and was somewhat productive at the latter. I'll chat at you tomorrow.

0907 - Good morning. I pulled pictures off of the Treo last night, and have a new collection of line jumpers and people who've decided that the emergency lane was put there for them to drive in. But I didn't have time to get those arranged this morning, so you'll have to be patient. What I'm looking at right now is some free CCNA documentation. Yes, free, as in, um, free. I've heard of this before but want to give them a gander since I have some Cisco gear to emplace shortly. Matt Bashamm's Learn by Doing books are on Lulu, a POD self-publishing site that also offers freely downloadable versions of some of the books there available. In this case I've pulled down the PDF versions of Bashamm's two volumes for CCNA and if they're as worthwhile as they appear, then I'll bust for the 25 bucks to purchase the print version. Good stuff, and have a great day!

0628 - Good morning. So what good is a camera phone, you ask (round 2)? Each thumbnail is titled, hover your mouse to read, click to see the snap:

Broken Down tow driver late for a hot date Motorcyclist who owns the emergency lane BMW drivers *always* get right of way? Lexus cuts in after a good run

More Emergency Lane special people, and other road events ...

Honda runs up the right side Trooper in a hurry Trooper found his calling Too much stuff, tie it on the back Even Toyotas get to cheat around here

Then two of something else, just to be different. Oh, and just showing that the phone can be used to document things, here's a bit of wiring...

Being me in a commute Smoke out of the median causes a backup This made Erik sad...

Today I'm going to rebuild a debian box into a proxy server. More fun than a barrel of monkeys. Ciao!

0824 - Good morning. I called Bob Thompson with a pleasant surprise yesterday. Astronomy Hacks got reviewed on Slashdot, driving quite a nice bump in book traffic at Amazon (and probably other booksellers as well). As of this morning, AH is number 615 in books overall. That's pretty excellent!

That's really all the news that's fit, for the moment. I've got a long day of sorting out old hardware ahead of me, then home to mow the back yard before the light goes. Ciao!

1150 - Happy Friday. There's not much more to say, I had a stunningly good commute in this morning, ~35 minutes. I'm sure to pay for that on the drive home this afternoon, however. We did learn something new today: the random-id option in a PF firewall breaks Apple's OSX updating facility. <grumble> More later if there's something to say. Ciao!

1155 - Good morning. Nothing to see here, move along. I've slept in bloody late, been up for about an hour, and we're going out to do something fun. Have a lovely day!

2050 - Hmmm. We got stuff done today, but it's all a blur, really. Sorry for the inconvenience. Your regularly scheduled programming should be back soon. Enjoy life!

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
