Welcome to Orb Graffiti, a place for me to write daily about life and computers. Contrary to popular belief, the two are not interchangeable.     About eMail - I publish email sometimes. 0742 - Good morning. Well, it seems that if I ever go insane or win the lottery, and decide to have some of the best men's shoes in the world, John Lobb will provide. For the price of 4 molar implants, I could have two bespoke suits from any one of a number of Savile Row tailors, perhaps Thomas Mahon, a pair or two of nice shoes from John Lobb, and the bit of change left over can buy me a few properly tailored shirts. Of course, paying down the mortgage takes some precedence...

Should be a light week. A number of people are out of the office all week, so I won't pick up on the process of inflicting Exchange on anyone until next week. But there's still plenty of mucking with computers that I'll get around to. I guess, given the time, that I'd best be getting started.

1002 - Good morning. A quiet night last night. I spent some time organizing and cataloguing DVD's ... I spend more time at that than watching the damned things, as Marcia's more of a movie fan than I am. But there are a few here that I'll be interested in, and that I didn't even know we had.

Having been through the mail, it looks like my prediction of a slow work week is panning out. Even email from the sales guys is slowing a bit, as they realize that anyone who can make decisions about spending money is taking this week off. I'll probably poke around at building a trial replacement fileserver today. One day closer to turkey overdose day, Ciao!

0950 - Good morning. Well, like several others of the remaining skeleton crew, I'm not going to work today. It'd be a long, long drive to get not very much done, and a longer drive back, as I joined the crowds rushing to be someplace else tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner. I helped out with a bit of computer work at a neighbor's last night, and relaxed a bit with a copy of "The Mote In God's Eye" (Pournelle and Niven) which I haven't read in probably 25 years. I think I'll do a bit more of that today and (surprised?) futz around with computers some more. Ciao!

1127 - Good morning. Happy Thanksgiving. Marcia got in some shopping yesterday, as she took a vacation day from work. I did a fair amount of backup work and shifting data around to make room for some upcoming storage media upgrades. I was talking with Bob the other night, and he recommended I hold off on my main system upgrade to see how Intel's next generation of dual-core processors pans out before committing to a new platform. That means that I'm holding off on the screen upgrades, too, as I don't want to buy another AGP card. Hmmm. Anyway, see y'all later...

1058 - Good morning. Marcia's out participating in the annual retail frenzy. I'm not quite sure why she's doing so, but I know enough to just get out of the way at times like this. As a matter of fact, after all we ate last night, over at the relatives of some friends, I may just go take another nap... Happy Friday!

1821 - Good eveing. We took the dogs on a nice long trip today ... all the way back home frorm Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Between shoppers and travellers, it was a longer run home than down (which we did on Monday), but not a bad drive back. As usual, we had a good time at the Thompson's place - they are gracious hosts. Note that every post this week was true, so now you have the context. And I have a need to do something besides sit here, having been sitting in the driver's seat for the last seven hours. See you tomorrow.

Mon    Tues    Wed    Thu    Fri    Sat    SUNDAY
November 27, 2005

1405 - Good afternoon. We slept late, glad to be back in our own bed. While it's fun to travel and spend time with good friends, even the most comfortable of guest beds still isn't like sleeping at home. Since we put the dogs out for the last time at nearly 11 last night, they let us sleep until 0930 this morning. Wow! Since then we've gotten the laundry started, the shopping done, and I've replaced two low-wattage flourescent bulbs that had burned out.

While we celebrated Thanksgiving with friends, our troops in the field did what they could to mark the holiday, and kept up the hard job they're doing on our behalf, and losing a few to the enemy in the process...

Okay. I have projects coming out of my ears, and I want to get at least one more productive thing done today, so I'd best be about it. Ciao!

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
