0838 - Good morning. It's already been a busy morning. A dead inside server needed some TLC, as it stopped responding shortly after the backup cycle in the wee hours of Sunday morning. We determined that repair wasn't critical so delayed that until today. A bit of inspection lead me to believe that we had either a PS or a motherboard problem. Fortunately I had an identical chassis sitting unused on the lab bench. I unslotted the drives from the troubled system, and brought the system up into single user mode. Right now the RAID partitions are rebuilding, then I'll do a quick system inspection. If all is well (and it looks good right now), then I'll bring the box back online. Yay!
Not much more to report... The news is always disturbing. But if you want a few chuckles, make sure to keep an eye on Groklaw. The latest involves SCO's new money-making scheme, EdgeClick. Part of the big announcement was the first important customer for SCO in this arena, a company called EdgeLink Solutions. Oooooh: "According to the Utah Department of Commerce Business Entity website for EdgeLink Solutions, Inc., guess who is a Director, Treasurer, and Vice President? One Andrea McBride." Aaaahh-HAHAHA! Will SCO and McBride never learn? It's fine to do such things, but disclose the connections, or you look like an idiot later (or, seemingly in Darl's case, still). Poor guy just can't seem to get a break. Maybe if they throw more chum in the waters they're swimming in, it'll distract the sharks, eh?

0623 - Good morning, briefly. But only briefly. Yesterday was Exchange day from hell, with the server message store downing itself a number of times. I finally explicitly unmounted the store, defragmented it, and remounted it. Seems to have been stable since then. And joy - I've got Jury Duty this morning. So I'd best go get some coffee and be on my way. Hasta!

0647 - Good morning. Ooogah Chacka, Ooogah Chacka ... be very afraid.
I was in the first group of 18 selected yesterday. It was a civil case. I was one of six selected from the pool for the jury, after both lawyers were done striking. The judge made me the foreman. Instructions, opening arguments, testimony, instructions, closing arguments, then more instructions. That took us to a lunch break at 1215. We were back in the room for deliberations at 1315. By 1330, we had finished our voting and discussion - that was quick because we didn't find for the plaintiff, and therefore didn't have to consider the damages portion of the judgement. I was on the road, homeward-bound by 1400, having done my civic duty. It's too bad, because we all felt that the plaintiff had been badly advised by her first lawyer, and her new lawyer didn't take the right tack to salvage her financial problems (apparently) induced by lawyer number one. Unfortunately, it must suck to be her, right about now. I felt bad for her (as did we all, I think), but not badly enough.

0933 - Good morning. The bad news is that a relative on Marcia's side has been found to have an abdominal tumor, spotted by CT scan. The pain has been there for a while though, which is also bad. We won't have any real news or prognosis until post-surgery on the 20th of March. That came down early evening yesterday, and blew the evening. This morning I woke to find the Exchange server in a state of dysfunction again. After assorted updates and surgeries there, I think it is going to be more stable and happy. At least I can dream, can't I? Oh, yeah. I hate Exchange!
On the upside, it is Friday. The world here is quite windy but otherwise springlike with temps in the upper 60's today. But here I am inside in the cube farm. Oh, well. Maybe I'll leave work early. But I've some tasks to finish up, so I'll get to those now.

I came home early yesterday, because I was a bit whacked, and in case Marcia needed me to do anything in relation to her sister's health issues. That wasn't the case, but it did let her take a nap while I kept an ear on the phones and such, so I suppose I did some good. Then the neighbor pointed out that he'd seen a piece of the siding on our house flapping in the strong winds that filled most of yesterday. Yay.
So this morning, I prepped for that, and did an assortment of other chores, as you can see from my post in IRC above. Life is, as is pain. I think I'll go take some ibuprofen now. Have a great day!

1334 - Good afternoon. I made mention yesterday of a considerable amount of outside chores, implying reasonably nice weather. Indeed that's the case: We made mid 70's on Friday, and high 60's yesterday. It's clouding in today, in preparation for some rain, but the warming temps have been enough to get the first trees into bloom. Out of our yard, there's clear evidence of green on the willow trees. And inside, we still have these lovely little red blossoms that come out right after Christmas, and stay in bloom for several months. Those plants are children of a housewarming gift, I think from the Kittermans. Every year I cut down the plants, split them out to a few new pots, and find more homes around the house. They're no good outside, dying in the cold, though.

Yeah, Lucy is either more photogenic (or simply more of a camera hound) than Molly. That sewing basket under Lucy in the first two pictures above is what we call her TV perch. She will sit (or stand) there for hours, watching Lucy TV - seeing a commanding view of her extended yard.
Is it just that the Iraqis are too busy fighting one another? Certainly is nice to see such a short list of casualties, though my heart goes out to the families of the fallen, and my pride in our young men and women grows. They go and put themselves in harms way on our behalf. Thank You!
