2129 - Good evening. Time continues to be my enemy. I'm getting lots done, but there's so bloody much to do. OTOH, that's way better than the alternatives. I've just done Jerry's mailbag, and a Cost Estimate spreadsheet for a network/systems integration job (for the school group project - I'm spending a paltry 200G). Over the next couple of days I'll be deeply embedded in a project to get some systems ready for our Disaster Recovery site, so ... it'll be quiet here. Okay, quieter.

1954 - Hola! Back in town after a trip to our DR site to rack some gear and execute a few network changes. Hours of driving both ways, and work well into the evening last night. But most of the work was successful, and we have direction for setting up a test rig to simulate the next round of changes that we're proposing. So, I'll stay busy. That's good. Oh, yeah, and I've been gone for two days out of a *five* day "week" (counting the weekend upcoming) with reading, exercises, and a quiz all by Sunday. Huzzah!

2137 - Good evening. Doing schoolwork... I have a copy of Office 2004 for the Mac. I picked it up for a song at the software indoctrination center that's associated with UMUC's bookstore. They only offer Adobe, Microsoft, and one other vendor (I cannot remember which at the moment). Anyway, I fired up Word to read the week's chapter notes from our instructor, and I got a pop-up asking if I would allow Word to accept incoming network connections. ??? Hells, No! Here's a useless post on the topic in Microsoft Communities. Wow. If it asks me that every time, I think I'll go insane. Oh, wait... I think I'll wait and read the bloody doc tomorrow. My eyes are starting to cross - I'm a bit tired. Ciao!

1855 - Good evening. Six hours of yardwork, and 4 hours of schoolwork. That counts as a full day by any stretch of the imagination. Front and back yards both got their first mowing of the season. The six vegetable boxes and the mulching box all got attention from the rototiller. And all of the over-wintering decorative grasses in the front beds have been trimmed before new growth can start in earnest. Once showered, I did the balance of the "week's" reading, answered the assignment topics, then completed and submitted the quiz due this week. Tomorrow, shopping and dining room work (and maybe some RFQ reading, should time permit, for work). Ciao!

1359 - Good afternoon. Another round of sanding in the dining room is completed. A very few more re-patch points - I'll touch those up with a lightly damp sponge instead of sanding. Next I've got to caulk some areas before priming. And I may go get that caulk today, so that I can prime during the week.

Today, al Sadr calls for his militants to stand down. That's good, because it's been a hairy couple of weeks. But someday, he'll stand them up again. What a pit! And our guys and gals want nothing more than enough stability so that the President will call them home. Meantime they do their duty, in harm's way. My condolences this week to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
