2058 - Good evening. Last night (well, this morning really), I was up sometime after one, signing my group project team up for the subject we selected. It was a first-come-first-served conference that opened at midnight local time, a big advantage to those west (or way east) of us here in Maryland. And we have both types of folks in this class. So along with all the other normal chores, last night I finished up the last of the first week's assignments (some of which have to be done this way, since they're in response to stuff due on Friday, or to comments posted over the weekend. This is a much more challenging class on a scheduling level. There's still a distressing lack of command of the English language evident, but I'll try to cope, and only ask if the word chosen is so wrong that there's no determining what was asked.

Strawberries, beds in the background Tomatoes coming up nicely Spinach, beans, squash, peppers Cucumbers, eggplant, peppers and more peppers

The garden's doing nicely, as you can see. That, and I just finished formatting Jerry's latest mailbag, and there's heavy storm warnings up. That meshes nicely with the quarter inch of rain we've taken in the last ten minutes. Plenty of thunder and lightning, too. I'll sign off for now. Ciao!

1938 - Good evening. A great number of things are going well. But there's a pothole - [[Previous content here removed - Marcia and her prior employer have parted ways. This makes Marcia happy]].

Meantime, the tree huggers are sending me Polar Bear donation pleas. Feh! A setup photograph stolen by Al Gore doesn't constitute "threatened". If some of the scientists now being heard (again, at last) are right, then polar bear habitat may be on the verge of a vast expansion. That'd be bad for us (but the tree huggers see people as evil, so that's okay, too). I think I'll go out to the fire pit and burn that plea - and add my bit of carbon dioxide to the warming we're likely to be wanting 10 years from now.

Ciao!

2003 - Good evening. It's hot. And humid. But the lawns have been mowed. Dilithium Crystals nearly exhausted. Ciao!

1716 - Good afternoon. Hot. Mid-90's out. Relatively high humidity. I sweated a river just doing a little light pruning and watering out front for an hour and a half. Inside, we're turning expensive electricity into cold air, which works for downstairs, and leaves upstairs in the mid-80's. So be it. I did the final coat of paint on the base board trim, in advance of the carpet going in next Friday. I cleared out that room, and helped Marcia with her office. We're emptying our offices, too ... I'm paying a crew to come in and lay down that bamboo for me. I'll put in the shoemold thereafter.

Tonight, pizza and strawberries. Linda's over to visit, for a couple of months, while her folks are using her place. That's always fun (really, not sarcastically). Oh, yeah, and schoolwork. Gotta go, ciao!

1710 - Good afternoon. Hot. Thunderstorms last night crashing and banging for the better part of two hours. And a measley 0.2 inches of rain for all that effort. Today the shopping got done and my office is about emptied out for the flooring later this week. In that process I managed to preorganize some of what's going to come back into the room, what's going to the garage sale, and what's going to the dumpster. It's not terrible - about 10 boxes right now, 7 of which are books. There's still a filing cabinet, desk drawers, and some wall patching to do.

It saddens me, each Sunday, to look at the latest list of young men (and sometimes women) who've given their lives in service to our country. I'll admit there are times when I wish I didn't feel driven to take note of their sacrifices, to pay heed to the honor they do us. But it's important to me. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen:

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
