2153 - So, Lexi is at the veterinary hospital now, and will be getting shots of melarsomine dihydrochloride over the next two days, followed by a couple of days of observation before they release her back to us. Then we get to keep her quiet for a month. That'll be a hoot! </sarcasm> In other news, I got the front lawn mowed this evening, while Molly barked at me through the front door. I've also been working on my final project for the CMIT course. My, how time flies when you're having fun. Not much else to report, at the moment.

2219 - Another day done. I made more progress on my final project, and spent about 1.5 hours on remote system updates and firewall policy issues for work. Whoops! Evening gone. Ciao!

2230 - Work, school, work. More firewall changes, most recently. And having finished the initial "design" of my final project for CMIT376, I am now configuring a Windows Server 2008 AD instance, and grabbing screenshots of each critical step in the configuration that matches my design. Boy-howdy, am I having fun, or what? Tired now, Molly woke me at 0530-ish, throwing up. Sigh. She's fine, I think, just stressed at all the recent change. Still, I've taken her off the Rimadyl pending results from a blood test to be taken next week. More when we know more. Ciao!

1646 - Lexi came home last night, after four days and three nights at the vets. She seems to be doing well, if feeling a bit under the weather. This time, for three or four weeks, we don't have to watch out for shock. Oh, no ... now we are worried about embolisms, lethargy, and coughing. Yay! And Marcia's home, too! She went to AQS for the week, in Paducah, Kentucky, and flew back noonish today. Nothing much else to report, really. Just another year older. Ciao!

2104 - I compose this with a sick little dog sitting in my lap. She wheezed, coughed, and was restless all night, which meant I didn't sleep much, more's the pity. Especially since I had systems to update at 0700 this morning, then shopping, then a full day of finishing up my Final Project for CMIT376. Challenging bugger, that last. I ended up with 44 pages of project, and a separate, several-times-edited Visio diagram, as my ultimate submission. The systems updates and the shopping got done, too. But I am one with the undead. Marcia skipped church today, and took the little dog to the vet. She was running a temperature, so got painful shots of anti-inflammatories and antibiotics. They both seem to have helped considerably, because she was one down dog, this morning. Tonight, she ate dinner, huzzah!And now ...

Looks like it was another long week in the Middle East, too. It's worth noting that forces are drawn down in Iraq to 98,000 in US troops, and apparently all the other nations have withdrawn all of their forces. Meanwhile, I can't seem to find hard numbers on troops in Afghanistan, but the speculation was 100K by this time of this year. They fight hard for what is right, from our perspective. While there's debate on that perspective, I'd guess that a large majority of the world would, given the choice, not live under Taliban rule. Is it our job to fix that? Well, it is now, I guess. Our folks are doing stellar, dangerous work over there. I am proud of each and every one of them. Our condolences to the families and units of these fallen warriors.

• Sgt. Randolph A. Sigley, 28, of Richmond, Kentucky, died April 18 in Bagram, Afghanistan.
• Sgt. Michael K. Ingram Jr., 23, of Monroe, Michigan, died April 17 in Kandahar, Afghanistan of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near his dismounted patrol.
• Staff Sgt. James R. Patton, 23, of Fort Benning, Georgia, died April 18 in Tikrit, Iraq, of injuries sustained as the result of a helicopter crash.
• Pfc. Charlie C. Antonio, 28, of Kahului, Hawaii, died April 18 in Annassar, Iraq, of injuries suffered in a non-combat related incident.
• Sgt. Robert J. Barrett, 20, of Fall River, Massachusetts, died April 19 in Kabul, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained when a suicide bomber attacked his unit.
• Command Sgt. Maj. John K. Laborde, 53, of Waterloo, Iowa, died April 22 at Kandahar Air Field, Afghanistan, of injuries sustained from a non-combat related incident.
• Staff Sgt. Christopher D. Worrell, 35, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, died April 22 in Baghdad, Iraq, of injuries sustained during a non-combat related incident.
• Sgt. Ronald A. Kubik, 21, of Brielle, New Jersey, died April 23 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained while conducting combat operations.
• Sgt. Jason A. Santora, 25, of Farmingville, New York, died April 23 in Logar province, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained while conducting combat operations.
