2133 - Thanks for your patience, this is the last week of the history course, so I'm working on the last paper for that course. Not much else to report, I'm afraid. If I make good progress during the week, then I might get around to some planting in the garden. The experimental crop this year is going to be yellow onions. Ciao!

2149 - And the decision is made (or rather, was made): It's the Battle of Hastings for me. My final paper for my History 202 class discusses the nine principles of war in the context of the Battle of Hastings. It's not in any of our readings, and perhaps unlikely to be selected by any other student. That's good, I want my work to stand out in as many ways as possible. You can be certain that half or more of the class will rehash battles already discussed in class, that they might regurgitate something reasonably safe, and get a passing grade. I hit every class with the hope of learning more than the class has to offer. I actually wanted to do the Battle of Agincourt, but for two things. One is that Agincourt was a relatively large battle, and I've got a four page paper to write, not a novella. Hastings, on the other hand, is a pocket battle, of small immediate scope, nearly bijou (though clearly of much larger ramifications for the next several hundred years of English history). My second issue was that finding usefully quotable resources on Agincourt turned out to be problematic. Shakespeare just isn't a good historical source. Other battles that I surveyed for the right amount of scope and references just did't work out. But on the gripping hand, Hastings turned up nice references, readable and quotable. Now, back to the writing... Ciao!

2213 - My paper's turned in - the history class is done. And better news yet - no tornados here yesterday - but better than an inch of rain was visited upon us. Today, shopping, yard work, and lab work for the CCNA class. So exciting, my life.
