2039 - Good evening. According to the little Accurite gauge bolted to the deck railing out back, we've gotten 0.04" of rain since about this time last night. It was less rain than a persistent heavy fog, but there you go. It's far less silly than Deutsche Telekom deciding to trademark use of the color magenta.

THIS IS A MAGENTA BACKGROUND

Maybe this is a Mobile problem

Wow! Just, wow. One has to wonder what the corporations got in return for their brains. Extra lawyers? Sounds like a sucky trade to me. ISO didn't get any extra brains (for allowing what appears to be a perversion of the voting to get OOXML "approved"). Nor did Creative (for legally barfing all over the one guy (a creative fan and modder) who could make their software work with their hardware). All traded away for a spot in a newer circle of Hades, IMHO.

Stuff to work on for Marcia, so I'll leave you to find out about those things, if your Google-fu is in fine fettle. Ciao!

0929 - Good morning. Gaak! Sorry for the missed days - all of yesterday evening went to school work. I'm especially frustrated by "lab" exercises (using the academic version of OpNet's simulation software) that just don't work as the lab instructions advertise. After a few hours of trying, I just stopped. I'll give it another go from zero in the next day or so.

I'll have a Jerry column to work on tonight, and much fun to be had working on systems in the interim. Best get to it...

1121 - Happy Friday! The rain gauge is working: we took 0.7" of rain between yesterday morning and this morning. I got Jerry's column online for him, and did other stuff that ate my evening up. Oh, yeah, a homeowners insurance survey to make sure we were insured for the right stuff and amounts. Nothing else new to report, see y'all later.

1129 - Back again, with amusing linkage to more barcode art and improvisation than you can shake a stick at, starting on this page at Dark Roasted Blend. Thanks to Captain_Kirk via IRC. Enjoy!

2103 - Good evening. It'd make a boring picture, but the dining room is fully primed now. Everything's white, from ceiling down to baseboard moldings. Tomorrow, I may get all of the trim painted out in the satin white. Then I'll let that cure for a few days before taping off and doing color coats on the walls and ceiling - the same linen color that's going on the upper walls is going on the ceiling: that'll set off the crown molding very nicely. Just as I was finishing up, Linda came over to visit. So we headed out to Applebee's for supper, because we had a gift card. Still, it was a mistake - they screwed up two of the three orders. So much for the Bowie restaurant - we'll not go there again. Tired now, buh byeeee!

1728 - Good afternoon. We slept late. Yeah, 0900. Normally that'd cause me problems getting up tomorrow morning, as I'd likely have trouble getting to sleep tonight, but with a day and a half of painting, I'm tired enough that it's likely not going to be a problem. Today, while shopping, i picked up enough bamboo flooring to do our two offices. That's a project for much later, like next Fall. But the sale is on now. So it's here, and down in the basement. After "lunch", I painted all the lower trim in a satin finish white. There's still the crown molding to do - perhaps Tuesday night. I could try to get it done today, but I'm fighting a sore throat, so no need to push too hard.

We're blessed to have men and women who do make the effort, day in and day out, throughout their tours of duty. Out at the pointed end of power projected, ten more lives spent in combat were announced by DoD this week. Think on their sacrifice, and honor their memories. Our condolences to the families and units of the fallen.

Visit the rest of the DAYNOTES GANG, a collection of bright minds and sharp wits. Really, I don't know why they tolerate me <grin>. My personal inspiration for these pages is Dr. Jerry Pournelle. I am also indebted to Bob Thompson and Tom Syroid for their patience, guidance and feedback. Of course, I am sustained by and beholden to my lovely wife, Marcia. You can find her online too, at http://www.dutchgirl.net/. Thanks for dropping by.
